Increasing investor and legislative demands for building security are driving manufacturers to continuous innovative steps and the development of new protective elements. These are systemic solutions suitable for both private and commercial sectors, which can ensure protection against fire, smoke, thieves, gunfire, explosions, or their combination. Let us take a closer look at fire protection, smoke-proof, and security systems offered by the German company Schüco International KG (represented in the Czech Republic by Schüco CZ, s.r.o.), specializing in façade, door, and window systems made of aluminum.

Schüco's system security solutions are tested according to applicable standards and can be implemented without any negative effects on the design concept of the building. Transitions between specially secured sections and areas from standard systems are imperceptible at first glance.

FIRE AND SMOKE-PROOF STRUCTURES

The program includes glazed fire barriers, non-load-bearing interior and exterior walls, inserted and suspended façades, or fire-resistant windows. The manufacturer guarantees fire resistance from EW 15 to EI 60.
According to the fire standard ČSN 73 0810 (Fire Safety of Buildings. General Provisions), these are constructions of type DP1.

The load-bearing element of the fire protection concept is the system Schüco ADS 80 FR 30 (Fire Resistant), suitable for the implementation of fire barriers including interior and exterior fixed glazing, with wing dimensions up to 1400 x 3000 mm (single-leaf doors), 2 x 1400 x 3000 mm (double-leaf doors), and with a maximum glass panel size of 1400 x 3000 mm for walls. The system has complete construction and technical certification (including fittings) and fire resistance class EI 30/EW30 according to EN 1364/1634. From this system, security doors resistant to burglary can be manufactured up to safety class 3. The result can be multifunctional doors meeting various object security requirements. An alternative in this area is the ADS 80 FR 60 system with fire resistance EI 45, EI 60. In terms of burglary resistance, doors from the mentioned system achieve safety class 2.

In the area of window systems, we highlight the systems AWS 60 FR 30 and AWS 70 FR 30, classic opening fire-resistant windows with a construction depth of 60 or 70 mm. In addition to fire resistance EI 30 (EN 1634), the profiles are noteworthy for thermal insulation and acoustic properties. In the event of a fire, a self-closing mechanism is activated in the windows. Window and door profiles can be fitted into traditional masonry, but architecturally interesting possibilities arise when combined with the fire-resistant aluminum façade FW 50+ BF or FW 60+ BF.

Façade systems FW 50+/60+ BF are tested as hanging curtain walls and achieve fire resistance EI 30 with appropriate glazing. With this system for vertical façades and skylights, it is easy to create an exterior wall over several floors with a maximum anchor spacing of 3150 mm; the constructions have a narrow visible width of 50 or 60 mm.
Due to the identical interior and exterior appearance of the profiles, they are visually identical to the standard Schüco FW 50+ and FW 60+ systems. Fire resistance EI 60 can be ensured by the Schüco façade system FW 50+ FR 60.

For interior elements
Schüco offers the non-insulated thermal bridge system ADS 65 NI FR 30 with guaranteed fire resistance EW 30. The non-insulated aluminum fire system provides solutions for interior wall and door constructions. The profile is equipped with a multifunctional groove for quick fastening of the system fittings. Fire barriers can be combined with smoke-tight resistance Sa -C, Sm-C. Alternatively, the separate smoke protection system Schüco ADS 65 NI SP (Non Insulated, Smoke Protection) can be chosen.

To prevent fire penetration between floors, a non-combustible horizontal fire barrier, a sill combined with a lintel, is used. The structure with resistance EI 120 (o→i)ef consists of elements of the standard façade FW 50+/60+, equipped with fire-resistant material according to production documentation.

BURGLARY PROTECTION

Most standard Schüco windows and doors can be realized according to the chosen type of fittings with increased resistance to burglary in security class 3, according to standard EN 1627. To achieve a higher security class, a special window/door system AWS/ADS 90 BR (Bullet Resistant), developed specifically for bulletproof constructions, must be used. The chosen variant of the system can produce structures (windows, doors, or fixed glazing) with burglary resistance in security class 4. The elements, due to their design, also meet demanding requirements for other properties of exterior elements - especially thermal engineering, statics, acoustics.

BULLETPROOF STRUCTURES

The newly developed system AWS/ADS 90 BR, resistant to burglary, can easily be converted into a bulletproof system using banding inserted into the chambers of the profiles. Such a system for windows and doors is classified as class 4 (S/SN) according to EN 1522. Opening and tilt-turn windows AWS 90 BR with a maximum sash weight of 160 kg and hidden fittings Avantec can ensure a combination of bulletproof function (class 4) and burglary resistance (class 4). For heavier sashes (maximum 200 kg), visible tilt-turn fittings are used, achieving class 4 for bulletproof construction. Single and double-leaf doors ADS 90 BR opening inwards or outwards can be made with burglary resistance class 4 combined with ballistic resistance class 4. The weight of the door leaf can be a maximum of 300 kg. Bulletproof windows and doors can be fitted into the FW 60+ façade, which has ballistic resistance class 4.

EXPLOSION-RESISTANT STRUCTURES

Schüco explosion-resistant systems provide optimal security solutions for military facilities, public buildings (embassies, hotels), and private homes. Years of experience with this sensitive topic have led Schüco to develop new window, door, and façade systems tested according to ISO 16 933 - tests conducted in open terrain. The tilt-turn window AWS 90 XR is classified in class EXV19(E), while single and double-leaf doors ADS 90 XR (opening outwards) belong to class EXV19(E); the façade FW 80+XR is categorized in class EXV15(D) and the façade FW 60+XR is tested up to class EXV19(D), all according to the aforementioned ISO 16 933 standard. The offer of explosion-resistant structures includes all necessary components (profiles, glass, fittings, fastening means), which Schüco offers as a complete package, including expert advice. In addition to the mentioned systems tested according to ISO 16 933, the company also offers systems tested according to the American US-GSA regulations.
