Construction has undergone intense development over the last ten years. Architecture, technological processes, materials, and especially customer demands have changed. The significance of topics has shifted as well. Today, energy savings, comprehensive solutions, design, and increasingly sustainability are the most important. Alongside this, there is growing pressure for individuality, which is evident not only in commercial buildings but increasingly among private investors as well. As window systems today are among the elements that co-create the architecture of buildings, they receive due attention. A reflection of all these ideas is the newly developed window profile ARTEVO from the German company REHAU.

Arguments for ARTEVO®

Right-angled geometric lines, sharp edges, and subtle design. These are the attributes with which ARTEVO targets the most demanding customers and architects. ARTEVO is a contemporary representative of minimalism and a new player in the market that can confidently compete with aluminum profiles, which have been sought after by customers for their dimensional possibilities and slim proportions. However, ARTEVO is a very competent competitor and keeps pace in all respects. In addition to its natural elegance, it offers excellent thermal insulation properties, high noise reduction, all at more favorable prices than its aluminum competitor. Two paths have led to this goal: the composite material RAU-FIPRO X, from which the profiles are made, and the new profile construction (including the arrangement of chambers), which has contributed, among other things, to an improvement in torsional stiffness and shape stability.

Profiles without reinforcement and maximum dimensions

The ARTEVO window profiles share a common platform with the SYNEGO profiles, which has led to simplification in production, among other things. This is, of course, of no interest to the end customer, but what they will appreciate is the resulting building depth of 80 mm (compared to the previous GENEO series with 86 mm). The glazing thickness in the classic version is a maximum of 56 mm, but the system also offers a second variant, characterized by a flush-mounted sash and glazing thickness reaching up to 72 mm. The new design of the composite profile and locally reinforced chambers allows for the production of windows in certain dimensions without the need for reinforcement. The offering of these elements is now greater than in the previous GENEO series. At the same time, the window has a lower weight, making it easier to handle. Naturally, everything also depends on the type of glazing (triple glazing, double glazing, and type of glass), which then affects other properties of the windows. The weight of the glazing (limits are larger than in GENEO), whether it is a colored or white profile, and whether the glass is bonded or not, play a significant role. For bonded glasses, the dimensional possibilities of window sashes without reinforcement are greater, but maximum dimensions can only be achieved by combining bonded glazing and reinforced profiles. If, for example, a customer requests the absolute largest sash size, it is possible to manufacture a dimension of up to 1700 x 2700 mm in the ARTEVO series. However, they must take into account that the window will have static reinforcement, bonded glass all around, and the weight of the glass must not exceed 30 kg/m². But by using a balcony profile, a size of up to 1800 × 2970 mm can be achieved for the sash while adhering to the same conditions. The maximum glass weight for smaller elements is then up to 120 kg. This is, interestingly, 15% more than in the older GENEO composite profile series. From this, it follows that the dimensional variability of the new system now has broader boundaries than before.

Genius foil instead of thermal module

A unique innovation of the ARTEVO composite profile is a special foil (more precisely, a tape) Low-E, which is inserted into the profile instead of the previously used polystyrene thermal module (GENEO profiles). What is the advantage of this solution? This foil is made of PVC and has a coated layer on its surface. This means that, unlike polystyrene, the foil is recyclable and therefore contributes to a better environment. The foil can be inserted into the profile during its production, which is primarily advantageous for window manufacturers, as it speeds up production and eliminates thermal bridges at the welding points (when welding elements, the polystyrene in the corners is partially disrupted, unlike the foil, which is welded). And the most important thing: The coated layer reflects (functions as a transparent mirror) up to 95% of thermal radiation in both directions. Thus, the Low-E foil reduces thermal losses and convection in the profile chambers. The previous thermal module only functioned as insulation. Simply put, ARTEVO with Low-E foil achieves maximum energy efficiency today. The customer will feel this through lower heating costs. Therefore, windows with the new profiles are recommended and certified for passive houses as well. For completeness, the value of the thermal transmittance coefficient through the profile (not to be confused with Uw of the entire window) is Uf = 0.81 W/m²K.

Recessed and flush-mounted sash

Let's return to the design of ARTEVO®. In the construction of the new profile, one can notice a number of details that contribute to its elegance. These include extremely slim overhangs on the outer side of the frame and sash with small radii and a low angle of inclination. Visually similar are the glazing beads, making the whole appear harmonious. Another new feature is the second alternative in the form of a flush-mounted sash. The window then looks not only slim but also compact. The advantages of ARTEVO profiles also include a variety of color combinations and designs, including wood décor. The profiles can also be complemented with aluminum cladding.

The premium window system ARTEVO represents a new standard in terms of design, utility properties, sustainability, effectiveness, variability, and comfort. Its development has achieved a previously impossible balance between energy efficiency, dimensional possibilities, and sustainability. ARTEVO can therefore be considered a new direction for window systems for modern architecture.

For interested parties - the new window system ARTEVO can be viewed at the traditional FENSTERBAU FRONTALE 2024 fair at the REHAU booth (hall 4A, booth 123) from March 19 to March 22.
