Sto s.r.o.

Thanks to the excellent collaboration between the client, architects, the execution company, and Sto, it has been possible to preserve the genius loci here, respect the compositional solutions of the original authors, reduce energy consumption, create a modern and highly functional appearance, and simultaneously resolve the demanding details of the façade of the old school.

Brno architect Janice Šipulová, together with Martin Sládek from the Consequence forma s.r.o. studio, is the author of the school reconstruction, and states regarding the development of the entire project: "The original assignment was to replace the windows, but gradually the assignment expanded to overall energy savings of up to around 50%. The windows, doors, boiler, and air conditioning unit were changed, and the school's façade was also reconstructed."

Insulation with respect to the original appearance of the building

Adjusting the artistic and compositional solution of the original building by Bohumír Kupka led to new windows with external shading, brick strips on the intermediate pillars and also newly on the entrance risalit, where the originally strip windows were divided. By lowering the window sills in the basement, these spaces were made brighter.

The original building had brick pillars between the windows, which the project authors decided to preserve during the insulation. The school façade is a combination of two Sto insulation systems with plaster and StoBrick brick cladding. Photo: Tomáš Slavík

Win-win solution for the investor, architects, and installation company

According to Martin Kadlec from Sto, the jointly chosen and implemented solution positively influenced the final quality of the work, the lifespan and appearance of the façade, and at the same time allowed for quick and easy installation of external blinds under the plaster. Architects were not the only ones satisfied; the functionality of the new façade was also appreciated by the investor. The students have joy from the high quality of the internal environment of the classrooms. The execution company also excelled in the installation of all structural elements. "The combination of quality insulation and a creative façade design freed the hands of the architects, brought the investor maximum efficiency, greater speed, and lower costs," says Martin Kadlec.

According to one of the project's authors, Janice Šipulová from the Consequence forma studio, school architecture is very important, and buildings intended for education should benefit society and cultivate the environment they are in. Photo: Daniel Dlouhý

A beautiful work with a number of interesting materials and details

An interesting fact is that architect Janice Šipulová, who is a co-author of the work, knows this primary school well, as she attended it. It pleases her that even during a public procurement process, a beautiful work with interesting materials and architectural expression can arise, appreciated by both aesthetic and technically-oriented individuals. A significant contribution to the successful realization also comes from Sto, which, according to Martin Kadlec, relies on the comprehensiveness, quality of its products, and the competence and personal approach of Sto's commercial and technical representatives.

A large number of details were addressed on the façade, such as the system covering of the blinds’ boxes using Sto-Putzträgerplatte boards, to avoid disrupting the overall impression of the object. Photo: Tomáš Slavík
