Do you know the Methodical Center for the Construction and Reconstruction of Libraries?

Brno – The Methodological Center for the Construction and Reconstruction of Libraries was established by the Moravian Provincial Library with the support of the Ministry of Culture in 2018. The creation of the methodological center is motivated by the current needs of public libraries, which are increasingly shifting from traditional forms of work with readers to offering a wide range of services and programs, educational, cultural, and social. Libraries are no longer just places for borrowing books; they are becoming community centers that contribute to the development of civil society.

The main mission of the methodological center is to assist all library founders and librarians who wish to improve their libraries. It offers consulting not only in the area of library construction or reconstruction but also in interior design, spatial arrangement, and equipment. What should a lending desk look like, who supplies library furniture, how to adapt library spaces for children, where to find funds for reconstruction, and what to watch out for when planning it? The center can advise on such questions as well. To this end, it creates a network of collaborators, designers, architects, and other related professions who act as consultants, expert advisors, or designers.

The intention of the methodological center is defined in the State Cultural Policy and the national library concept. The starting point for the center's activities was also the survey Public Libraries and Their Spaces as part of the preparation of the library development concept for the Czech Republic for the years 2016-2020.
