Brno Kohoutovice plans to build a parking building together with the city

Brno – The Brno-Kohoutovice district is preparing, together with the city transport department, a parking garage on Stamicova Street. The cooperation rules for the project preparation were approved by the council today. The preliminary cost estimate is about 80 million crowns excluding VAT. The costs will be covered by the district and the city in the ratio of 25 to 75 percent. Brno will utilize the mobility fund for financing. Ideally, construction could begin in two to three years, the municipality stated in a press release.

The new parking garage should be located on the free area between residential buildings at Stamicova 3 and 5. "Parking is a pressing problem, and the leadership of the district has found a way to help the inhabited area," said transport councilor Petr Kratochvíl (ODS). The building is expected to accommodate 80 cars. It will have three floors, two underground and one above ground. Only one floor will be fully above ground due to the sloping grassy area. The covered parking lot is intended for residents from the area.

The council approved today the rules that clarify the roles of the city and the district in the individual steps of preparation and also in the operation of the parking garage. "The design, including obtaining the necessary permits, will be ensured by Kohoutovice. As for the construction part, the selection of the contractor, and the implementation, that will be the city's responsibility. The operation will then be transferred to the district," Kratochvíl added.

The leadership of Kohoutovice has already developed an architectural proposal for the building. "It was important for us that the construction blends as much as possible into the surrounding environment. Nearby, there are not only residential buildings but also greenery and a forest. The building will follow the local uneven terrain, and the green roof will provide insulation. The layout is simple and functional – each floor of the building will have its own entrance and exit," said the mayor of Kohoutovice Jakub Hruška (KDU-ČSL). The district is now preparing the project documentation for the authorization of the plan.
