Brno – Brno is looking for artists to create an artwork on the flood protection wall on Bakalovo Embankment visible from the Winning Group Arena. It should be completed by the end of the year. The artworks will also enhance two other sections of the new flood protection walls by the Svratka River. The aim is to contribute to the creativity of urban space, make it more attractive, and bring it to life while also deterring vandalism, the city hall reported. When the new waterfront will be accessible to the public is still unclear.

Artists can submit their proposals for the artistic rendering of the flood protection wall on Bakalovo Embankment, which is 345 meters long, until August 25. The jury is expected to meet in the first half of September to propose a winner. All proposals will then be displayed in an exhibition and in an electronic catalog. The artwork, costing 1.5 million crowns including 250,000 crowns for the author, should be completed by the end of the year.

The artworks will also brighten the section visible from the Stone Bridge and Táborské Embankment. It is 754 meters long and runs upstream on Poříčí from the Faculty of Architecture of the Brno University of Technology to Bauerova Street. Students from the Faculty of Architecture and the Faculty of Fine Arts will participate in its implementation. The second section of 296 meters will be visible from Táborské Embankment near the ROS Auto Center. Its appearance will be managed by the House of Arts of the City of Brno.

Construction in the section from Riviera through Poříčí to the railway viaduct on Uhelná Street started in January 2022. The work will cost 1.511 billion crowns excluding tax. The completion date has been postponed several times. The city is now taking over the construction and handling the permits so that the public can access it as well. "It is possible that modifications will be made based on identified complaints, requests from the police, or the building office regarding the occupancy permit. This is common for such extensive constructions. We will inform about further updates and the opening date," stated the city hall.
