Brno has once again postponed the deadline for those interested in building a complex on Červený kopec

Brno – The start of the construction of the socially-health complex at Červený kopec, which has been in preparation for the summer and is budgeted at 820 million crowns excluding tax, is being postponed once again. Brno has once again pushed back the deadline for submitting bids for the contractor from the end of January to March 9. The reason is the number of inquiries from potential bidders, said Filip Poňuchálek, spokesperson for the Brno city hall, to ČTK. The city began looking for a contractor last June. Initially, it was believed that construction could begin in the fall of that year.

The area has been planned by the city for years. In May of last year, the city council approved the announcement of a tender for the contractor, which is still not concluded. The deadline for interested parties regarding the contract has been postponed several times, previously for adjustments to the conditions of the procurement documentation involving the easing of requirements for the professional qualifications of the site manager and their deputy. Now, the deadline has been extended due to inquiries regarding the project documentation. According to Poňuchálek, however, the volume of inquiries shows that companies are interested. The project is designed and has a building permit. After the contractor is selected, the work can begin.

The project plans the construction of three pavilions connected by an entrance hall. They will serve seniors requiring nursing care, individuals in post-hospitalization care, or persons with specific social needs. The capacity for long-term ill patients is 150 places.

The center at Červený kopec is among the strategic projects aimed at preparing Brno for an aging population. The city expects significant demographic pressure in the next ten years, which will start to decline only after 2050. The number of people over 80 years old and those suffering from dementia and other serious illnesses will increase. The strain on the social system will be rapid, and this is in a situation where social services have long been at the edge of their capacities and are keeping lists of unsatisfied applicants.

According to the senior care plan approved by the Brno representatives, it is necessary to increase residential capacities by up to 1,250 beds by 2035. The development of field and outpatient services is also essential, including increasing employment or supporting informal caregivers. Annually, the city should invest 200 to 300 million crowns in this area.
