Lysá n. Labem and Milovice have winning designs for senior homes, 33 teams competed

Lysá nad Labem / Milovice – Lysá nad Labem and Milovice in the Nymburk region have winning designs from the architectural-urban planning competition, according to which homes for seniors will be built in both cities. The competition organized by CCEA MOBA received proposals from 33 Czech and foreign teams. The winner is the Prague team Lennox architects and Ateliér Rangherka 5, according to the jury. Three winning designs were selected, and the cities will now gradually negotiate with their authors, while the homes will be built by the Central Bohemian Region, the spokesperson for Lysá nad Labem, Alžběta Trousilová, informed today in a press release.

"The winning design of the home presents a strong and easily memorable urban composition that can be simply adapted to both sites with different terrain configurations. The low two-story mass lightened by atria and semi-atrias feels very welcoming for future residents due to its proportions and human scale. The diverse character and program of the atria and semi-atrias ensure ideal lighting and close contact with the exterior for both living and community spaces,” the jury stated.

The second prize was awarded to the Prague studio ASGK Design by architect Gabriela Kaprálová, and the third place was taken by the Prague studio neuvirt novotná architects. The jury appreciated the large number and high quality of most proposals and the wide range of urban and architectural approaches. Teams of architects from Canada, India, China, Denmark, Portugal, Spain, Italy, Switzerland, and Slovakia participated in the competition.

Contestants were to develop a design for a building plot in Lysá nad Labem while also exploring the possibilities of modifying it for a building plot in Milovice. "We are pleased and pleasantly surprised that a design was selected that is truly flexible and can be applied to both city plots without the need to compromise on our vision and requirements for the functioning of the new seniors' home,” said the mayor of Milovice, Milan Pour (ANO).

Both cities and the Central Bohemian Region had previously agreed that the town halls would ensure the preparatory phase for the construction of two new facilities, while the region would cover the construction costs and ensure the operation. Each of the homes is expected to have 70 places. In Lysá nad Labem, the region is currently establishing a home with a capacity of 115 beds, but the facility located in the castle premises is inadequate. A new building is to be created in the northern part of the city. In Milovice, where there is no similar facility, an area above Haken's stadium has been designated for construction. Construction could then begin in 2030. The estimated cost of construction work for both homes is 700 million crowns.
