Prague - Prague plans to sell the premises in the building at Jan Palach Square to the AAAD (Academy of Art, Architecture and Design) in Prague and to purchase land from Czech Railways in Žižkov for the construction of a tram line through the area of the former Žižkov freight station. Both transactions were approved today by the city council, and they will still be voted on by the representatives.

AAAD is located in a building with a façade on Jan Palach Square, part of which it owns, while the rest belongs to the capital city. The city's established dance conservatory is also located there, from which the university rents part of the premises. It now intends to purchase these spaces, according to the approved document, an appraisal set the price at approximately 28.3 million crowns.

According to the approved document, the conservatory does not agree to the sale, as it itself has a shortage of space. The city will address the situation according to the material, but as the conservatory is not utilizing the space anyway, according to the municipality, the situation will not be worse than it has been so far. "Building a new dance hall appears to be a solution to the unsatisfactory spatial situation," states the document.

The council also approved the transaction with Czech Railways, from which the capital intends to purchase land with the former railway line in the area of the Žižkov freight station for approximately 66.5 million crowns. The Prague Public Transport Company plans to use it for the construction of a tram line that will serve the future new district.

The approximately two-kilometer line with six pairs of stops will run from the intersection of Jana Želivského and Olšanská streets to the Jarov Housing Estate. The company intends to start building the first single-track section using the existing tracks this year, with projected costs of 709.1 million crowns excluding VAT.
