Grand Opening of the Revitalized Jiří z Poděbrady Square

After more than two years of extensive reconstruction, Jiří z Poděbrad Square will be ceremonially opened to the public on Wednesday, June 17, 2026. The new appearance of one of Prague's most significant public spaces was created according to the design of the MCA studio by Pavla Melková and Miroslav Cikán. The revitalization unifies the previously fragmented square, follows the urban order of Josip Plečnik, and brings more trees, shade, water, and better facilities for markets, cultural events, and everyday life in the neighborhood.
The festive opening of the square after reconstruction will feature music, dance, neighborly meetings, and a rich accompanying program for all generations. The afternoon event titled "Let's Dance Jiřák!" will transform the newly renovated square into a lively center of culture, entertainment, and social life.
The program will begin at 12:00 PM with a series of musical performances. The stage will feature the choir Zvonky–Praha, Bendík, Žižkovská smršť, and BigBandPlus. At 4:00 PM, there will be a ceremonial act to open the square with the participation of guests and representatives of public life. This will be followed by a concert by The Silver Spoons, and the evening program will conclude with an energetic performance by the internationally renowned group N.O.H.A starting at 7:00 PM.
Throughout the afternoon, two guided tours of the square will be conducted by architects Pavla Melková and Miroslav Cikán, who are the authors of the revitalization project.
All day long, visitors can enjoy dance performances, interesting guests, a children's zone, and stalls with refreshments. Admission to the event is free.
