Apartment with aquarium
The request from the young couple who approached us for a complete renovation of their apartment was to create a contemporary and fresh space in the original apartment inherited from their parents. Another interesting theme was the placement of a large-volume aquarium in the living area.
The main feature of the existing layout was an oversized and redundant hallway that took up an unreasonable amount of space. As a proposal, we chose a rather radical solution – removing the partitions between the kitchen and living room as well as between the hallways and living room allowed for free space for further considerations. The entire area, including the bathroom and WC, was unified with a consistent flooring – red-brown marmoleum. The original zoning of the living room/kitchen/hallway was preserved by integrating a multifunctional furniture box. From the hallway side, it functions as a shoe cabinet, from the kitchen side as a pantry, and from the living room side as additional storage space. This box seamlessly connects to a dining table that is at the same level as the aforementioned aquarium. Thus, the fish can be part of all activities at the table. The material of the box and other wooden elements is ash veneer with an interesting pattern.
As a cover for heating, we had perforated panels made with a circular motif that allows air circulation. On top, they replace the originally missing sills. This whole structure then aligns at the same height with the kitchen countertop.
The bathroom and WC remained the same in layout, but they received new tiles and fixtures. The most distinctive element is the quartzite mosaic on the back wall of both rooms.
