To glassmaker Zdeněk Lhotský – a prominent figure in contemporary Czech applied arts, was entrusted with the realization of the sarcophagus of the Danish royal family placed in the chapel of the cathedral in Roskilde in 2015, in the form of an extensive glass cast sculpture according to the design by Bjorn Norgaard. For the production of the demanding several-ton crystal casting, which was melted and polished intensively for several years, a simple ground-level structure with floor dimensions of 12.0 x 10.5m and a height of 3.7m with a flat roof was erected next to the glassworks building, slightly protruding in front of the gable of the existing building. The extension is slightly embedded in the existing terrain of the garden. Structurally, it consists of a trio of monolithic walls that support the ceiling slab. Large areas of glazing are set in aluminum frames. The southeast, partially glazed wall is shaded by the overhang of the roof slab, which also creates a cozy space for a porch. The mass composition is complemented by a rooftop steel skylight in the shape of a cube with an edge of 2.7m, and in the front wall, Lhotský's artistic relief is cast as a symbolic imprint of the builder.
