The small country villa built in the 1940s is the client's childhood home, which he returned to after years spent in various places abroad. Although he currently only uses the house on weekends, he decided to adapt it for permanent living, which he plans to establish here in the near future.
The client's requirement was to adjust the interior to his needs while simultaneously preserving the genius loci of the functionalist villa. With minor exceptions in the bathrooms, we did not interfere with the building's structural elements. We made every effort to preserve and renovate existing interior features such as terrazzo floors, original door frames, and the staircase railing. In the bedroom, we uncovered and preserved the original paintwork in a small area above the bed.
Prominent new features include an atypical kitchen unit and dining nook. Together, they define the space in the small kitchen and create inviting corners without obstructing smooth movement. This is also achieved by emphasizing rounded edges, which correspond to the spirit of the entire building and are repeated in the reconstructed bathrooms. We connected to the existing color palette with an ivory shade on the kitchen unit and the bench, combined with dark veneer. We used the original tiles for the backsplash behind the unit.
In the final stage of furnishing, we assisted the client in placing solitary furniture and accessories, including paintings. Many of these items come from the original interior or were acquired by the client during his life, creating a personal connection with them.
