Apartment building in the center of the recreational area of Staré Splavy near Máchovo Lake.
Project Description
The apartment building is constructed on the site of an unfinished hotel from the 1990s. The building responds to its surroundings with a mass composition based on variously shaped cross masses placed on a common base. This solution allows for views to the south towards the lake and divides the volume of the building into smaller parts, resembling the typical structure of the village center.
The cladding of the facade with wooden beams refers to the natural qualities of the location and creates combinations of open areas – window openings and loggias – and solid parts on the facades. The wooden beams of the cladding project in selected places in front of the loggias and terraces, creating a subtle sunshade and visually indicating the separation of private space from the external environment.
The layout of the internal spaces is rational and efficient, with residential units accessible from common open stair areas designed with an emphasis on sunlight for each apartment and utilizing views of the surroundings.
Technical Information
The foundation slab and the related wall and ceiling structures of the basement level are designed as a white tank of water-resistant concrete, combined with masonry from a brick system. The primary load-bearing structure of the above-ground building consists of a monolithic skeleton with masonry. The facades are systemically insulated and covered with a ventilated cladding of wooden beams. The roof covering is metal, and the metal cladding also continues vertically on selected facades. The interiors are designed in combinations of exposed concrete surfaces and plastered structures.
