Completion:2005

Client and General Designer: PPS KANIA (Ing. Jan Kania)

The main concept was to connect Silesian Ostrava with Moravian Ostrava. Two Ostravas, one bridge, one Ostrava. Industrial Ostrava, modern Ostrava, which gives the chance for old things to shine again, which provides new opportunities.

The main factor that influenced the positioning of the bridge was the investor's requirement to align the longitudinal axis of the footbridge between the towers of the Basilica of the Divine Savior and, on the opposite side, towards the tower of Silesian Ostrava Castle. The height positioning of the footbridge was limited by the requirements of the Odra River Basin. The lower edge of the footbridge structure must be at least one meter above the flood level of a hundred-year flood. This positioning also meets the barrier-free connection of the footbridge to the asphalt road of Havlíčkova embankment. As part of this concept, a barrier-free connection of the gravel sidewalk along the left bank of the Ostravice River to the footbridge is also addressed, along with the completion of a section of the stone retaining wall, into which a supporting pillar of the footbridge will be incorporated. On the left bank, a section of the asphalt road running along the banks of the Ostravice and Lučina will be relocated, achieving again a barrier-free connection to the footbridge. This road will connect to an asphalt sidewalk leading to the public transport stop on Bohumínská street.
For spanning the Ostravice River, an industrial truss bridge will be used, which is currently located over the Odra River. It will be reconstructed and modified for installation on the newly built bridge pillars. It will be adapted for pedestrian use, equipped with lighting, and architecturally enhanced. The industrial appearance of the footbridge will not disturb the character of the surrounding landscape and will serve as a reminder of the industrial past of the city of Ostrava.
