The interior design of the Mondieu brand in the newly completed second phase of the Eurovea shopping center in Bratislava was based on the brand's philosophy – "Mondieu is a place where time flows differently." We aimed to create a space where one can pause for a moment and enjoy the present – inspiration came from the concept of mindful living – which means being fully mentally present in the current moment, savoring it with all the senses, and being attentive to every detail and feeling that the moment brings.
Therefore, we strived to create a pleasant yet interesting space in our design by utilizing natural materials, playful textures in contrast with minimalist simple elements complemented by organic shapes.
The idea of slowly flowing time also inspired the design of the benches that line the entire café space, which "flow" around the plant pots with their rounded shapes. The upholstery of the benches is made from natural fabric, and the seats have an increased depth for greater comfort for customers. The custom benches for this project were made by the company LINO.
All walls in the café's interior and in the restrooms were finished by the company DekorDesign with their natural cement plaster. The thick natural texture of the walls is accentuated by warm light hidden behind vertical bronze mirrors – these create a harmonious contrast to the organic benches and bar with their orthogonality and minimalist forms.
The centerpiece of the entire space is the mentioned central arched bar. The bar is lined with bench seating oriented towards the glass façade. This atypical element offers Mondieu customers views of the terrace and the Danube waterfront. The shape of the bar follows the suspended illuminated screen above it, reminiscent of a floating lantern (or halo).
We designed the wooden floors custom in collaboration with the company Žáček – terracotta shades alternate with natural oak wood, creating a relaxed atmosphere in the interior with their playful pattern.
Another element of the natural material palette in the interior are travertine tiles in the restrooms, which are polished to the same colors as the wooden floors, visually connecting the entire space. Likewise, the open kitchen space, which shows customers how Mondieu's specialties are prepared, is designed in the same earthy terracotta shade. An indispensable element of the interior, as well as the outdoor terrace, is greenery – a combination of bird of paradise plants, palms, and cacti gives the place an exotic character while the plants cozy up the space and complement the typical character of the Mondieu café.
