The municipal library is located in the courtyard of the municipal office in Statenice.
It is based on the footprint of an older house and a new extension that expands its usable area.
The lightweight timber construction of the extension curves along the property line and is clad in folded metal roofing made of pre-weathered titanium zinc. The metal reflects the sky and the shadows of the tall ash trees.
The existing part has been renovated in its original spirit.
In front of the library, which will also serve leisure activities, gatherings, and children's clubs, we have restored a small garden with a bench and a fruit tree.
Inside, there is a low mezzanine above the entrance and study area for children's clubs accessible by a steel spiral staircase. The main part of the library is elevated into the roof space, where daylight enters through skylights. The space is lined with tall library shelves made of light birch plywood. The older masonry has been stripped of plaster and treated with a lime façade coating.
