Pension for Wine Cellar

The original building structure of the rural courtyard was degraded by endless construction modifications to such an extent that we, along with the investor, definitively decided to demolish the ruins of the buildings, with the exception of the most original part of the basement. In the urban footprint of the original structure, with minimally changed floor plans, we constructed a new building in the original arrangement - a longitudinal object oriented with the street, accompanied by a courtyard wing.
The building is located in the protective zone of the Podyjí National Park, which is why we respected the requirements of the heritage authorities for a historical facade facing the street. We reconstructed the historical facade according to the only preserved period photograph, where we managed, also thanks to a similar internal layout, to achieve a facade facing the street that is very similar to the historical one. For the courtyard part, I proposed modern facades, while considering the historical aspect of the location and the overall atmosphere of the rural building.
The combination of dry-stacked stones with a fine exterior lime plaster created the main framework of the material concept. The white color of the facades combined with black window frames is slightly provocative in the context of the often-used pastel colors in the area, yet this combination expresses the necessary degree of humility and simplicity in a protected heritage area. The roofing is a classic roof with a traditional slope and material - beaver tiles.
In designing the building, I tried to combine a modern approach to design with the historical environment so that the building did not appear as an intrusive new element in the historical context, while also retaining a certain degree of modern integrity.
