Praha Office

Praha Office
The object of the reconstruction of new offices for the family firm is today’s family house from the late 1940s. This duplex (the reconstruction concerns its southern half) embodies the character and quality of construction from the pre-communist regime era. Among the undeniable qualities of the house are the moderation of expression and the simplicity of the composition of the basic masses (body, southern room on the 1st floor with terrace, roof). Originally, the house was set into the terrain and stood together with its twin on the plot somewhat freely. The last major intervention into the house was the reconstruction and extension made in the early years of 2000 and 2002. This renovation added an underground base to the house from the south and west sides and perceptually elevated the house from the road. This step significantly emphasized the vertical perceptual line of the object and is somewhat of a half of a dual tower. The good orientation of the house east-south-west gives all the rooms in the house the opportunity to enjoy direct sunlight. The building is accessed from the street through a gate or a driveway gate for vehicles. Behind the fence-wall is a small courtyard (the forecourt of the garage) and an outdoor staircase leading to the 1st floor. In the base of the house (basement), there is a garage, storage room, and boiler room. These spaces are not part of the reconstruction. The main effort for the reconstruction is focused on the meeting room, social facilities, and clubroom with an internal staircase to the 1st floor.
