Reconstruction of a family house in Rudná
The family house in Rudná near Prague was completed in the 1990s and has already required a complete rejuvenation of its interior spaces. The biggest intervention was the construction of a new children's room in the previously unused attic, along with the installation of another staircase leading to this space.
For this purpose, an unconventional solution was chosen – a narrower arm continues above the existing staircase, with a curved colored panel above it featuring cut-out holes. The entire space above the staircase thus becomes a shared play area for the boys who occupy the new room and for the little girl who still has a room one floor below. The all-encompassing yellow color extends from the pleasant marmoleum on the floor to the mentioned curved surface in the form of a lacquered wooden panel. The smooth surface invites sliding and other frolicking. The imaginary slide ends in a hole in the floor, filled with safety netting, thus creating a view of the landing of the staircase one floor below. The whole can resemble an uplifted slice of Emmental cheese, any similarity is purely coincidental.
The living room also received a new coat, dominated by a generous library. It consists of continuous white panels with embedded cabinets made of oak veneer. Minor changes also occurred in the dining room. A decorative screen made of white slats and veneered strips separated the existing kitchen from the dining area.
The bedroom was also brightened, where a neutral white color prevails. A carpenter made an atypical library inserted under the window sills, which transitions into a heating cover, again in a combination of white slats and veneered strips. A similar transformation took place in the bathroom, where the unifying white color is enlivened by tiles with a subtle decor of blue dots.
