was built in the , which is an example of functionalist architecture in the Czech Republic. It is a unique location embodying the ideas of housing from the 1930s. The house was designed by architect and was built in 1933-34 for the family of . The house and garden were in very poor condition before the renovation. In the design, we aimed for the most sensitive approach, respecting the design of architect and the ideas of functionalism. When designing the renovation, we had three main intentions – to connect the house with the garden, not to significantly alter the mass of the house and facade, and to retain the subtlety of the windows typical of these houses, which unfortunately tends to disappear during renovations. While studying in the archives, we found more versions of the original plans, which made us confident in our adjustments. The eastern expansive garden with terraces was not connected to the living area, so we newly connected it with the garden through a large window. The terrain unevenness, especially in front of the house on the southern part of the property, and the quality of the eastern terraces at the level of the living floor were inadequate. We redesigned the southern part of the garden and connected it to the house, creating a semi-buried patio with a water feature and stairs leading to the eastern part of the garden. We proposed a minor adjustment to the mass of the house in the size of the roofed part of the original laundry room with a sun terrace. We slightly expanded the laundry room, allowing for the creation of a bedroom with views of . The original state of the layout was in some parts of the interior marked by interventions and divisions into multiple apartments from previous years. We cleaned up the layout, retaining the structural use of the floors and the position of the stairs. Thanks to the structural system of the house, we connected the main living floor entirely. In the interior, we wanted to maintain material purity, simplicity, and the functionalist spirit of the house. Also, thanks to the taste, education of the client, and attention to detail, we were able to use interesting materials and products.
