The clients' brief and wish was to create a building that has a "roof," is contemporary, distinctive, and is not a new-functionalist box…
Instead of transforming the traditional form of a house with a classic roof, which can be found in various forms on neighboring plots, we chose the opposite approach, allowing us to break free from the stereotypes in expecting what this house should look like. We decided to address it as a plastically shaped object, and the softly undulating roof plane is a free reinterpretation of the Hořický ridge across the valley.
The simple interior layout is organized around a transparent entrance space located near the approximate center of the object. Among the house's requirements, a sea aquarium stood out. Throughout the search for a functional arrangement, it appeared in various parts of the main living space. The resulting variant, where the aquarium is part of the study, is directly connected to the living room.
The internal living space is extended to the exterior with a covered terrace that is protected on three sides. This user-friendly outdoor space, placed in a location with an unobstructed view of the landscape, significantly expands the possibilities of inhabiting the house and is often used by the clients. The terrace also serves as an end to the covered walkway, allowing for a "dry-foot" circumnavigation of the house even in less favorable weather.
An external wine cellar is added to the house, intersecting with the clients' professional life. While the house is a striking solitary structure, the wine cellar is partially embedded into the terrain. This allows for the creation of a different type of outdoor terrace, which is a private, sheltered space, extending the interior of the wine cellar.
Given the clients' high work demands, minimizing their burden during the realization process was also part of the brief. Therefore, we not only designed and discussed the house for them but also completely realized it.
