From a distance, the number 69 encoded throughout this interior represents not only the famous sexual position. Its colors are not a random selection by the architect either. This time, the inspiration comes from paintings.
Some people perceive contemporary art as mere home decoration. Then there are collectors who can appreciate it but often have their living spaces cluttered with artworks to the point that it becomes a storage space. And then there are people who, although they are not necessarily collectors, still acquire a few quality pieces for their enjoyment and are ready to give them a dignified place in their living space. We have designed the renovation of a duplex apartment in Žižkov specifically for such individuals.
We incorporated a pair of striking paintings into the design, and at the same time, we infused the proposal into the paintings themselves. Sixty-nine peeks out from the heating's casing as well as from the furniture, but it is primarily represented directly in the painting by Vladimír Houdko, which holds special significance for the owners, including the number itself. The unusually wild edges of the painting are reflected in the kitchen cabinet door finishes. The meeting of the colors of the paintings and the interior speaks for itself. In addition to the obvious relationships, there are also less noticeable ones, such as the shade of the plaster behind the bookshelf. This was mixed to resonate with the painting by Josef Bolf placed here. The noble melancholy it evokes is referenced by the teardrop-shaped light fixtures, but also by the placement of the view axis towards the "Waterfall" on the blind wall of the Žižkov panel building by Patrik Hábl. There is no escape for the artists here, but this space is not about them. It is about a simple home for a young family that understands art, appreciates it, and seeks comfort from it. Creating an interior where contemporary art is not reduced to interchangeable decoration goes hand in hand with solving a number of practical problems, such as expanding the kitchen or wardrobe, adjusting the technology housing, creating an office, etc.
We completely renovated the apartment. The layout was adjusted, sanitary fixtures were replaced, all surfaces were renewed, heating was modified, air conditioning was added, the staircase was rebuilt, and a bit of sacred lighting was added to it. The furniture is custom-designed—from the bed to the wardrobes to the dining table.
