The organizers of Open House Prague invite all interested parties to explore the city from a slightly different perspective on Tuesday, September 17 at 6 PM on an unconventional guided boat trip on the Vltava.
During the more than two-hour cruise with architect and architecture popularizer Petr Kučera, it will be possible to learn many interesting and surprising facts about the role the Vltava River played in the image of Prague and its everyday life in an engaging way. For centuries, it represented a transportation artery and at the same time an obstacle, a driving force for many trades, a source of drinking water and wastewater, a charming element that complements the Prague panorama, and a constant threat in the form of devastating floods.
In addition, participants can view the restored interior of the historic paddle steamer Vltava, including the engine room, which was declared a cultural monument in 2013. The Vltava steamer is one of the last two large paddle steamers sailing on the Vltava. The first passengers boarded in 1940, with the inaugural cruise heading to Štěchovice. Over the years, it has undergone several renovations. In 1991, it was converted into a restaurant boat, which has still managed to retain its historical charm to this day.
The guided cruise is organized by the non-profit organization Open House Prague, which annually opens several dozen normally inaccessible buildings to the general public for free in Prague. The cruise takes place with the kind support of Prague Boats, s.r.o. – Prague Steamboat Company, a.s. Pre-sale on Goout: https://1url.cz/kM0QW Tickets can also be purchased on-site.
Cruise route: Rašínovo nábřeží – Hlávkův most – Rašínovo nábřeží Capacity is limited. The duration of the cruise is 2–3 hours (depending on the waiting time in the locks). A café is available on the steamer. The steamer has one front outdoor deck, a partially covered rear observation deck, and two indoor lounges, where even in the case of bad weather, the guide's explanations can be heard. 10% discount for members of the Architecture Lovers Club.
