We would like to invite you to the inspiring panel exhibition "The Municipality Builds - The Vienna Model of Affordable Housing – A Successful Story", which we have prepared for the public at our cultural space Akropola in Kremnica in collaboration with the Austrian Cultural Forum /Österreichisches Kulturforum/ and the State Scientific Library in Banská Bystrica /Ing. arch. Rastislav Udžan, PhD./.
The exhibition on the Vienna Model of Affordable Housing reveals how Vienna has been providing affordable housing to its residents for 100 years. Approximately 60 percent of Viennese live in municipal apartments or city-funded residential developments today. Every year, the city invests around 500 million euros in new constructions, renovations, and support for people with very low incomes. The high percentage of subsidized apartments has a dampening effect on prices in the private real estate market and ensures the social mixing of city residents. What is special about Vienna is that you cannot tell how much a person earns based on their place of residence. Where the financial resources for subsidized housing come from, how they are used, what measures are taken to work for the municipal community and in the prevention of eviction, how and under what conditions apartments are allocated – all these topics are addressed and processed by the exhibition. The exhibition on the Vienna Model of Social Housing was presented in 2019 in Lyon at the European Housing Festival and in Moscow. In Slovakia, it was presented in Bratislava, Košice, and Banská Bystrica. Part of the exhibition's hosting in Kremnica will also include publication materials.
The installation of the exhibition will be available in two parts at two locations within Akropola: one part in the foyer of the building, the other unusually in the cinema hall. We are also planning a finissage for the exhibition (Monday, August 16 at 5:00 PM) with interesting guests, to which you are equally warmly invited.
