Tower water tanks are among the unmistakable yet often overlooked structures of Ostrava. Together, they create a colorful mosaic across various construction approaches, water supply systems, and periods of construction – here one can find architecturally successful urban water tanks, a wide array of buildings from different industrial sectors, representatives of railway structures, and typologically unique multipurpose buildings. During a field lecture at a pair of water tanks in Slezská Ostrava, we will explore how these prominent Ostrava landmarks function and what makes them special. The lecture will be led by Robert Kořínek, a specialist in tower water tanks and industrial heritage, head of the Ostrava branch of the T. G. Masaryk Research Institute for Water Management. The program will also include the launch of the new pamphlet "Ostrava Water Tanks," which presents selected buildings and their stories.
Attention! Meeting point at the Art Nouveau waterworks in Hladnov, at Nejedlého Street 14.
