Workshop for architecture, sociology, geography students
The workshop is divided into two parts: An online preparatory workshop and seminars (June 1–5, 2020) including presentations by group leaders and individual work on the topic. The second part (June 10–11, 2020) will take place at Kasárny Karlín, where individual teams will finalize joint outcomes. The outcome of the workshop will be a magazine that will include several texts and all the resulting projects.
Online preparatory workshop Online seminars on three speculative scenarios of affordable housing
Using three speculative scenarios, participants will independently explore ideas and possible visions leading to the achievement of affordable housing. In the first part of the online seminar, each of the guest lecturers will present their project related to a specific scenario of achieving affordable housing, based on which the methodology for creating one's own vision for its realization will be explained. In the second part of the online workshop, individual speculations of each participant will be presented and subsequently discussed with guest lecturers and other participants.

Workshop Karlín Three speculative scenarios of affordable housing in Karlín
Using three presented scenarios, participants will test new ideas and visions for achieving affordable housing in Karlín. The future development area in the center of Prague - Rohanský Island in Karlín - represents opportunities to mitigate the current housing crisis. Following the exhibition Pro/měna Karlín, during the workshop, participants will address the consequences of the privatization of the housing stock and gentrification in a postsocialist city, characterized by an asymmetric relationship between the city and the private sector. The aim of the workshop is to find possible scenarios of how the city and/or architects should plan a new district to be affordable for all. Part of the workshop will be a walk through Karlín led by architect Jakub Nakládal from the Memory of the City initiative.
Magazine The outcome of the workshop will be the publication of a magazine, which will include an introductory text by Maroš Krivý, essays by guest lecturers that will present the theme of affordable housing through their speculative projects, information, and data about Karlín stemming from the exhibition Pro/měna Karlín and outcomes from both parts of the workshop.
