Prague - The State Prize for Literature for the year 2014 will be awarded to poet, lyricist, and translator Pavel Šrut, and for translational work, to Hanuš Karlach. The Ministry of Culture's lifetime achievement award in the field of theater will be received by Jaroslav Vostrý, and in the field of music, by Ivana Loudová for her compositional mastery, representation of Czech music abroad, and the education of a young generation of composers. In the realm of visual art, the jury selected, among others, for curatorial work Ludvík Hlaváček, and the award for contributions in the field of architecture will be received by Otakar Kuča. The laureates were announced today by the Ministry of Culture, and the awards will be presented tonight at the Agnes Monastery. The prizes come with a reward of 300,000 CZK. The award for contributions in the field of architecture will be given to Otakar Kuča for his lifetime unique work in landscape architecture and his sensitive contextual cultivation of public space. At the Ponrepo cinema, awards for contributions in the field of cinematography and audiovisual arts will be presented separately on October 29. The awards were given to cameraman and co-creator of a number of exceptional works of both Czech and world cinema Miroslav Ondříček in memoriam, and film and television director and screenwriter, author of distinctive documentary statements and several feature films Drahomíra Vihanová. The award is presented annually on October 27 in celebration of World Day for Audiovisual Heritage. The Ministry of Culture has published a booklet with profiles of the laureates and discussions and controversies that have arisen around them and the prize itself. "Exactly twenty years ago, in 1995, a new phase of state awards began - awarded again for literature and for translational work, not for loyalty to the regime and compliance with its ideology. This reinstated a long tradition established in 1920 and interrupted after February 1948. For this reason, this year's edition of state prizes and the Ministry of Culture awards is somewhat exceptional and invites reflection," sent a message to the participants of the meeting, Minister of Culture Daniel Herman, who is currently on an official trip to Israel.
