Dvur Králové nad Labem - Dvur Králové nad Labem in the Trutnov region is preparing an architectural competition for the reconstruction and use of the former Mayer factory in the city center. The area, covering 5,500 square meters, has several buildings, and according to the city hall, it should host a multipurpose hall for culture and education, an entertainment and educational center, a depository, a children's amusement park, and a puppet theater. Reconstruction costs could reach up to 339 million crowns. Miroslava Kameníková, the spokeswoman for the city hall, said this today to ČTK.

The Mayer factory complex in náměstí Republiky was purchased by the city of Dvur Králové in 2017 for 9.4 million crowns from the Dvor cooperative Vánoční ozdoby. Originally, it was a textile factory; later, there was a market in the complex, and the company Strojtex also operated there. The factory buildings are located in the area of the city heritage zone and are currently partially used by various tenants.

"We have been preparing the project (revitalization of the area) for several months, and it is one of the priorities of the city's development program for the period from 2016 to 2022," said Deputy Mayor Jan Helbich (ANO).

The task of the participants in the competition will be to architecturally, artistically, and operationally integrate the factory area into the historical center of the city and open it up to the residents and visitors of Dvur Králové. According to Helbich, the proposed uses for the factory emerged from public discussions with citizens and from a survey conducted during an exhibition that took place two years ago right in the Mayer factory premises.

The architectural competition itself is expected to be announced this fall. The results of the competition are to be known in the first half of next year. The city estimates that the design work could cost up to 24 million crowns. Among the participants in the competition, a total of 2.5 million crowns should be distributed as awards.

"The design that should win is one that is not only architecturally successful but also financially viable, especially in terms of operational economics," Helbich stated regarding the evaluation of the competition. The city would like to use grants to finance the reconstruction.
