Dvůr Králové nad Labem – Dvůr Králové nad Labem in the Trutnov region has announced an architectural competition for the reconstruction and use of the former Mayer factory in the city center. Miroslava Kameníková, the city hall spokesperson, told ČTK. The area of 5500 m² contains several buildings, and according to the city hall, it could house a multipurpose hall for culture and education, an entertainment and educational center, a depository, a children's amusement park, and a puppet theater. The costs for the reconstruction could reach up to 339 million crowns.

The Mayer factory in the Republic Square was purchased by the city of Dvůr Králové in 2017 for 9.4 million crowns from the local cooperative Christmas Ornaments. Originally, it was a textile factory; later, there was a marketplace on the premises, and the company Strojtex was also located there. The factory buildings are located in the city’s heritage zone and are partially used by various tenants.

Architects can submit their proposals for the competition until July 13. The competition is one-round, with 2.5 million crowns allocated for participant awards. "The design should architecturally, artistically, and functionally integrate the area into the historic center. It should connect Republic Square with Tylova Street and open it to the city's residents and visitors. Furthermore, it should address parking in the area," stated Deputy Mayor Jan Helbich (ANO).

Proposals for the factory's use, according to Helbich, arose from public discussions with citizens and from a survey conducted during an exhibition held in 2018 in the Mayer factory's premises.

"The jury will assess the overall quality of the architectural solution, the quality of functional-operational and overall solutions, considering anticipated investment and operational costs," said Mayor Jan Jarolím (ANO). The jury's evaluation and the established final ranking of the submitted proposals will be binding for the city.

The winning proposal should be one of the bases for commissioning further design work, overseeing its implementation, and bringing the construction into use. The city estimates that the design work could cost up to 24 million crowns. The reconstruction of the factory could be gradual.
