1st place: 200,000 CZK Author: IXA, v.o.s. / Ing.arch. Benedikt Markel, doc. Ing.arch. Tomáš Hradečný, Ing.arch. Klára Hradečná, Filip Chládek, Ing.arch. Jakub Kochman, Ing.arch. Julie Kopecká, Bc. Eliška Martínková, Ing.arch. Martina Požárová Jury evaluation: The proposal offers a high-quality (landscape) solution for the area based on an analysis of broader relationships, with a logical routing of paths. The jury appreciated the conceptual work with the motif of walls as an element that connects the addressed area and addresses its individual elements – ground leveling, partial covering of unsuitable views, seating for visitors to the area, solving quiet traffic (parking) or space for possible incorporation of artifacts. The jury valued keeping an open view of the church of Our Lady from the southern part of the addressed area. The proposed smooth connection of both addressed parts, especially the space in front of the entrance to Chlumek and the People's House, is valuable. The proposed solution for rainwater management and the environmental approach are presented in minimal form in the proposal and deserve more thoroughness. The proposal is reasonable in terms of costs for implementation and subsequent maintenance and care. The jury unanimously recommends the client to start a dialogue with the participant and author of the winning proposal and to negotiate all the necessary aspects leading to the closure of the contract for the preparation of the project in all phases defined in the competition conditions. A thorough redefinition of the construction program and the resolution of any debatable partial parts of the competition proposal to achieve mutual agreement on the project assignment will be part of this contract in its initial phase.
2nd place: 170,000 CZK Author: Ing. arch. Ivan Vavřík, Ing. arch. Anita Prokešová, Ing.arch. Richard Ott, Ing. Lenka Feifrlíková Jury evaluation: The proposal often addresses several key problem points as the only one. The solution in the lower part of area A is rather indicated. The relocation of parking, which would otherwise spoil the view of the meadow, is a positive aspect. The parking is moved higher, alongside the slope adjoining the road. The lower part of the meadow starts stepping, distinguishing itself from most other proposals. The proposal respects the necessity of access to the technical services building through the meadow area in area A. In the area B, water and the peaceful forecourt of the temple are interestingly addressed. The lower part of the park area maintains and develops the tranquility of the area and the possibility of placing recreational and play elements. In this area, another connecting water surface can be placed if it is in the city's interest. The proposal, as one of the few, addresses the problematic view of the existing private building of the People's House with greenery in the upper part. The solution of occasional parking in the lower part of area B, which is hidden behind vegetation, is considered positive. The placement of flower beds in the middle part allows for educational games with various species of plants and vegetation. Some may see the large number of ideas in the proposal as negative, but they can be considered and elaborated in further possible collaboration with the client.
3rd place: 120,000 CZK Author: SYMBIO STUDIO / Ing. Pavla Drbalová, Ing. Marie Gelová Sandra Chlebovská Jury evaluation: The proposal brings a less ostentatious to inconspicuous concept. The authors respond rather soberly to local situations and intentions in the spirit of the motto "park of diverse characters," which is particularly evident in the Leisure Centre and the connection of the social services building with the Jesuit residence through the orchard. The fundamental layout of both parts is independent and does not succumb to the challenge of baroque composition by routing paths or visual axes or composed plantings. As one of the few proposals, it inserts a distinct divide in the view of the temple from Žižkova Street in the form of a garden and allows the temple to stand out rather in fortuitous partial situations. The ingenious alternation of characters is well seen in the utilization of the tree skeleton of the former cemetery with grove character compared to the sunlit meadow. The restrained approach is, on the other hand, detrimental to the southern forecourt of the People's House, which, despite its exclusive location, has not received adequate enhancement. The establishment of a partial axis in front of the Jesuit residence, as well as the organically winding reinforced path through the orchard, which is additionally emphasized by contrasting graphics, is contentious. The solution of the forecourt of the Multipurpose Centre has not undergone the expected reassessment either. It is one of the most cost-effective proposals. The quality of the area here is not compensated by drastic and costly modifications, but rather by everyday conscientious care. The program content of the "Lady Countess's Orchard" can be variably reduced or added according to the investor's possibilities without detriment to the strength of the concept.
Reward: 20,000 CZK Author: BY architects, spol. s r.o. / MgA. Markéta Zdebská Jury evaluation: The proposal effectively addresses space at the junction of Žižkova Street in connection with the entrance to area A and the nearby community center. The capacity and placement of angled parking in K Chlumku Street along the western side of area A is welcomed. The simple modification of the area and the proposed planting do not compete with the significant view of the pilgrimage church. The proposal offers an interesting impetus for the possibility of land exchange with the bishopric and their new use as a park behind the church and an orchard in front of the bishop's residence. The proposal evidently does not solve the transportation connection for no. 45 (technical services building). The demolition of the historical sandstone wall with a gate between the "People's House" and the bishopric residence is inconceivable. Any construction in the lower half of area B is completely unacceptable. The proposal brings an inventive and interesting approach to the addressed location, including economic aspects, particularly in area B. The contentious parts of the proposal are too drastic contrary to the expectations of the competition client. The author team consistently accepted the challenge of the first evaluation criterion and presented a critically independent view on the assignment itself. Some jury members appreciated the effort for an innovative approach and radical solutions from a different perspective, which further develops the very formulation of the competition assignment. However, the proposed construction of valuable public and historically significant space with family houses and the transfer of these areas into the private sphere is evaluated by the jury as incorrect and insufficiently justified in relation to the character and specific qualities of the area, which society would thus lose. The jury also appreciated the solution of the area in part A and the overall cultivated presentation of the proposal and the conceptual considerations of the authors.
Reward: 10,000 CZK Author: Petr Velička, Ing. Markéta Veličková Jury evaluation: The strengths of the solution include the preservation of visually valuable views of the temple from the orchard in part B. The solution maintains natural communication connections in part A and meaningfully addresses the lower part of area A and the connection to Žižkova Street. The proposal also maintains the connection to the technical services building. The design of the lapidarium is an interestingly resolved element, but it does not fit into the context of the place, and this solution also seems questionable due to likely very high implementation costs. The cancellation of the stairs and related more extensive terrain modifications seem quite drastic and costly. The solution for natural drainage of rainwater and specification of species is not entirely convincing. PO parking is inappropriate and occupies a relatively valuable part of the park.
Reward: 10,000 CZK Author: Ing. Vladimír Sitta, Ing. Tereza Havránková, Ing.arch. Pavol Moravčík Jury evaluation: The proposal is a sympathetic attempt to sensitively address the meadow in area A by shaping the terrain with waves, thus differentiating it from most proposals. Area B is addressed with too schematic raster of vegetation featuring differing and unsubstantiated areas requiring various maintenance characters with play areas not entirely suited for a park surrounding a significant baroque monument. Additionally, in the lower part of area A, the proposal does not offer any significant or functional solution. The upper part of the path remains an exposed, awkward-looking building of the People's House, framed by an unacceptably looking hardened surface.
