Brno – The expert jury selected nine participants from 46 submitted portfolios who will compete for the design of the new main train station in Brno. The selected architectural offices will join three that were directly approached. In the first phase, twelve competitors will develop their designs. Most of them are from abroad.
The international urban transport architectural competition began on August 31. The client is the Railway Administration and the city. The office of the architect of the city of Brno directly invited three foreign architectural studios that have experience with major transportation projects. "They are the creators of train stations in Vienna, Rotterdam, and Berlin. I was pleased that all confirmed their participation. The bar is set really high, and it gives hope that Brno will have the most modern train station in Europe," said Mayor Markéta Vaňková (ODS).
The jury evaluated 46 applications. The meeting of the competition jury was held in the form of an online video conference. The jury members discussed the portfolios for about four hours, assessing them particularly in terms of the complexity of the reference works, respect for the context of the site, and emphasis on the sustainability of the solutions with regard to the environment and public spaces.
The anticipated date for the assessment of the first phase is March 4 and 5 of next year. This will be followed by a second phase, in which four participants will proceed to develop their proposals in greater detail. The jury is expected to select the winner in June.
