Prague - The planned reconstruction of the swimming pool in Motol in Prague 5 will begin in mid-July, with workers starting the construction of new facilities. This year's swimming season will not be affected by the construction work. The two-story building with a restaurant, sauna, and wellness center is expected to be completed in the first half of next year. ČTK was informed about this by the spokesperson of the Prague City Hall, Vít Hofman. The reconstruction will cost the capital city approximately 43.5 million crowns excluding VAT and will be carried out by the company Ekologické a inženýrské stavby.
"The construction work will only minimally disrupt the summer experience; the water areas will not be affected at all, the construction site will be fenced off, and visitors will only face partial restrictions,” said the mayor's deputy Jana Komrsková (Pirates).
The existing support buildings of the swimming pool are in a state of emergency and contained asbestos, which, according to the city hall, accelerated the decision to construct a new facility. The demolition of the old structures is now complete, including the removal of the concrete base.
The new two-story building will be partially embedded into the slope and will offer toilets, changing rooms, showers, refreshments, and staff facilities on the ground floor, while the upper floor will house a café and wellness area with saunas operating year-round.
The swimming pool is located near the Motol ponds between Plzeňská and Zahradníčkova streets. The city hall has been preparing the project for a long time, with delays arising from criticism from local residents, such as from the Homolka - Motol neighborhood association. The Prague 5 city council also had comments regarding the scale of the planned construction.
The operator of the new complex will be selected by Prague in 2026. Until then, visitors will use temporary facilities, with the entrance to the swimming pool this year being moved approximately 150 meters east of the original location on Zahradníčkova Street.
