The subject of the competition was to prepare a proposal for the architectural and artistic solution of the Jan Palach Memorial in Všetaty as a specific and symbolic place where the power of experience can lead to inner transformation and the creation of a unique relationship of the individual to the history of the 20th century. The competition proposal had to demonstrate the author's vision of a comprehensive solution for the memorial area and the land on which it is located. The proposal should also showcase the strength of the creative personality, their respect and perception of the significance of Jan Palach's extraordinary human sacrifice in the context of 20th-century history and the struggle for democracy and human rights, as well as knowledge of the complexities of modern education and museum exhibitions. A binding requirement from the organizer for the solution to the memorial was the proposal: a) for the artistic transformation of the original house into the Jan Palach Memorial in Všetaty, with the organizer assuming a meaningful division of the memorial into three zones: symbolic – artistic transformation of the house itself as a symbol of Jan Palach's sacrifice, aiming to give the object a new quality in its new architectural value and strong impact and resulting impression on visitors to the memorial; contemplative – garden and landscaping of the land (including the demolition of unsuitable agricultural and utility buildings) into a form of meditation garden for personal reflection and contemplation of visitors to the memorial; educational – new construction of an exhibition pavilion and spatial-artistic solution for the exhibition located here. b) for the construction and technical solution for the revitalization of the land and the house, including the solutions for the demolition of technical buildings and the project for new buildings on the subject land for the purpose of putting it into public use as a museum facility; the proposal should take into account the demands for quality service provision to visitors/clients of the newly created public operation.
