Pardubice - Pardubice are preparing a tender for the processing of project documentation for the revitalization of Palackého Street. The adjustment of the access road to the town from the railway and bus station has been in preparation for several years. First, it will be necessary to create project documentation for the zoning decision, with the transport department having allocated six million crowns in the budget, Deputy Mayor Jan Hrabal told ČTK.

The city hopes to announce the tender for the documentation in the first quarter of 2023, Hrabal stated.

The first architectural study of Palackého Street was created in 2018. The new appearance of the street should meet the needs of residents for several decades to come. The focus of the project will be the complete revitalization of the roads, sidewalks, and greenery. The street should also respond to the planned development on its northern side, where vacant areas have emerged after the Prokop milling machines and distillery company, the current bus station will be stopped, and possibly also the brewery area in the future. The street on this side should offer more space for pedestrians and greenery.

According to architects, the street could provide more functions and enhance people's stay with better-quality furniture in a uniform style, playgrounds, and cafés with outdoor gardens. The buildings there are mostly from the turn of the 60s and 70s. The construction was preceded by the demolition of older buildings. The street has been wider since then.

In the past, the city considered removing the footbridge to the former Tesco department store from Palackého Street and the unsightly structures located beneath it. In the end, this will not happen. "Due to property relations and cost savings, the project considers preserving the footbridge and the 'block' structures that are adjacent to it," said the mayor's deputy.

The construction, with estimated costs of several hundred million crowns, is expected to be divided into phases. The project will take these phases into account considering budget possibilities and technological limitations. "Our ambition is to start the first phase by the end of this electoral term, but I cannot definitively confirm this due to potential delays," Hrabal stated.

The city administration wants to familiarize the residents with the proposed changes. They are considering, for example, placing information panels directly on Palackého Street, where they can recall the proposal. It was also created using responses from nearly 1500 completed questionnaires, and Pardubice also has materials from individual interviews.
