Pardubice - In the first half of next year, the reconstruction of the area in front of the train station is set to begin in Pardubice. The construction will bring significant traffic complications. However, it will not last long, said Mayor Martin Charvát (ANO) to ČTK. According to initial estimates, the work should last until the end of the year.

"The accessibility for pedestrians, buses, and cars will deteriorate, but there’s no other way. The timeline for implementation is short," said the mayor.

The city expects to receive completed project documentation along with the budget in January and to announce a tender in the spring. At the beginning of February, the public will be informed about the new layout of the area as well as the planned restrictions that will accompany the construction, added Charvát.

"The area in front of the station is already an undignified gateway to our city; taxi drivers park on the sidewalks, there is nowhere to lock a bicycle, the pavement is crumbling, and drivers park in no-parking zones," said the mayor.

The maximum costs are expected to reach 130 million crowns. The city has been promised 85.5 million crowns from Swiss funds. In the area of the current fountain, there will be a central bus platform with benches and information boards about departure times. New parking spaces will be created, including 25 short-term parking spots in a Kiss and Drive mode.

The area in front of the station is the first phase of the transformation of the entire locality. The investor will not be just the city. Completion of all seven planned projects is expected by 2025. Road workers are currently expanding road I/37 and modifying the U Trojice junction.

With funding from the European Union, the city plans to build Terminal B for line buses and turn Palackého Avenue into a city boulevard. The revitalization of the train station building and Terminal South, which will connect the Dukla housing estate with the train station via an underpass, will be a project of the Railway Infrastructure Administration.
