Prague - Prague will announce a tender for the reconstruction of the former greyhound racetrack in Motol in Prague 5 into an athletic stadium. The expected value of the contract is 97.7 million crowns including VAT. This was decided today by the representatives of the capital city. The stadium is to be completed in 2027 and will serve for training as well as for hosting national and international competitions. The city purchased the buildings of the greyhound racetrack, which stand on municipal land, at the beginning of this year for 215.8 million crowns.
The complex on Plzeňská street previously consisted of a sand oval for greyhound races and an indoor karting area. After reconstruction, there will be an athletic stadium with an eight-lane, 400-meter track, tartan surface, and sectors for jumps, throws, and shot put. The existing building will serve as facilities for athletes and the public.
According to the approved document, the main reason for the reconstruction of the complex is the insufficient capacity and technical condition of the existing athletic stadiums in Prague, which have long been inadequate for the demand for training and competitions. The new stadium should, among other things, serve sports clubs from Prague 5 and also host athletic competitions.
The contract will be awarded using the design and build method, where the contractor prepares the project documentation while also ensuring the construction. The expected value of the announced public contract is 97.7 million crowns including VAT and includes project documentation and the construction of the stadium. The costs for the transformation of the complex have been estimated at 105 million crowns including VAT, with the difference from the contract covering other necessary services, such as technical supervision of the builder, engineering activities, and other costs associated with the preparation and completion of the construction.
The city purchased the greyhound racetrack buildings in Motol at the beginning of this year from the company CZECH INTERNATIONAL for 215.8 million crowns. The complex stands on municipal land, which the company had leased until 2035 with an option for another ten years. According to the city hall, the purchase was more advantageous than a potential legal dispute over the termination of the lease.
