Prague - The Prague City Hall has announced a tender for the designer of the planned connection between Evropská and Svatovítská streets via a new road, which is intended to relieve Vítězné náměstí in Prague 6. As stated in the public procurement bulletin, the estimated value of the contract is 14.5 million crowns. The city is also preparing the reconstruction of Vítězné náměstí.

The new road is to run along the railway line behind the grounds of General Píky Barracks and will emerge onto Evropská street next to the Diplomat hotel on Gymnasijní street. According to information in the bulletin, the anticipated costs for the construction are 400 million crowns, and the city council approved the contract for the project at the end of October two years ago.

Prague is also preparing a project for the transformation of Vítězné náměstí, for which it previously announced an architectural competition. The winning office was Pavel Hnilička Architects. The main idea of the modifications is to free up the center of the square by relocating tram and car traffic so that it can serve as a standard square. The total costs for the transformation of the square are estimated, according to earlier information, at 500 million crowns excluding VAT.

Vítězné náměstí, located at the intersection of Dejvice and Bubeneč, was created in 1925 and is currently connected by several streets - Evropská, Čs. armády, Jugoslávských partyzánů, Svatovítská, and Dejvická. It has had several names, including being called the October Revolution from 1952 to 1990. Among the locals, it is commonly referred to as Kulaťák.
