1st prize – proposal no. 19 – 270,000 CZK authors: Štěpán Kubíček; Jan Novotný; Martina Buřičová; Jonáš Krýzl Brief annotation of the proposal: Attractive architecture for the social, cultural, and sports life of the municipality. The form is unequivocal, simple, and dignified. To maintain and not spoil the existing friendly atmosphere. The integration of all functions into one whole: multifunctional hall – restaurant – terrace – playground - garden. An environment for meeting and relaxation for inhabitants of various ages. Jury assessment: This is a building that concentrates operations into one mass. The jury appreciates that the entrance façade slightly retreats from the ground level while the building mass holds the street line at the upper level. After discussing with the client, the jury recommends moving the building back on the west side of the plot closer to the edge by Havlíčkova Street, creating a larger open area for garden activities. Height connections of the upper mass with surrounding buildings were also discussed. The jury finds it appropriate to place the access to the municipal office at the northern edge of the garden. The entrance to the courtyard of the municipal office must be verified. The layout uses layering of spaces (hall – restaurant – pergola – garden) that connect parallel to the street. The jury appreciated the creation of a dignified two-storey hall. The interior is very elegantly designed and expresses its social function. The fact that the restaurant on the ground floor connects the hall with the garden was also appreciated. The possibility of reducing the depth of the restaurant was discussed, so that the linden tree next to the building could be preserved safely. The jury valued the connection of the small hall to the municipal office.
2nd prize – proposal no. 15 – 140,000 CZK authors: prof. Ing. arch. Ivan Ruller Brief annotation of the proposal: The addressed area is located between Masarykova and Havlíková Streets south of the Municipal Office building. The main entrance and façade are designed from Masarykova Street, and it orients the main operation of the entire building. Access to the outdoor sports fields is ensured through changing rooms for athletes, an outdoor sports area, the entrance to the youth club, and service for visitors sitting under the linden tree. The building itself is designed in two above-ground floors in close relation to the commemorated linden tree, which the authors consider the main motif and element of the entire composition. The whole concept aims to create a maximally multifunctional building for cultural, social, and sports use, in line with all necessary and contemplated activities in accordance with the life of the entire municipality. The construction solution anticipates reinforced concrete and brick vertical and horizontal structures, facades, and a combination of white plasters, exposed concrete, glass, and wood. The layout and architectural design showed great respect for the characteristic phenomena of the area. Jury assessment: The jury appreciates the forecourt, the connection of the proposed building to neighboring houses along the street line, and the fact that the foyer is oriented towards the street. However, the jury considers the foyer space to be oversized. Another question is the placement of the restaurant entrance directly through this foyer. The location of the hall with tables in the space by the garden is appropriate. The jury points out that the restaurant should connect with the garden. The jury views the preservation of the garden's free space and the placement of a covered terrace in it positively. The proposed steps enhance the natural configuration of the terrain, which maintains the character of an amphitheater. The jury finds the use of a high order on the street façade appropriate, and the relationship between the central part of the façade with the high order and solid walls with windows was discussed. There is a lack of a connection to the municipal office on the upper level. The jury appreciates the placement of back-office spaces in peripheral areas, balancing the irregularity of the plot, within the layout.
3rd prize – proposal no. 09 – 60,000 CZK authors: Ing. arch. Martin Neruda; Ing. arch. MgA. Markéta Mráčková; Ing. arch. MgA. Barbora Šimonová Brief annotation of the proposal: The new social and cultural center in Hrušovany u Brna builds on a long sports and cultural tradition in this place. The "Sokec" plot connects two basic lines of streets in the municipality, positioned by the school and the municipal office, and its cultural and sports community use creates the core of life in Hrušovany. We propose a compact building that belongs to the municipality. The building does not diminish or weaken the current outdoor space surrounded by a ring of mature trees. It offers the required function in an elementary layout. The adjusted public courtyard connects with the rear forecourt of the town hall and at the same time with Masarykova Street through a gap linking to the existing narrow passage. The courtyard is graded to resemble a natural amphitheater with outdoor sports fields and a mobile stage. We want to create a pleasant cultural and social environment considering architectural, urban, economic, and ecological aspects. Jury assessment: A proposal that concentrates everything into one mass while preserving the existing storage-dining facility. The jury appreciates the compactness and confidence of the proposal, which has a monumental character. The building has a clear internal layout. A layout problem is the placement of the restaurant's back office inside the layout of the first floor. The jury does not consider it most appropriate that the restaurant's service area is located further from the hall. The orientation of the windows on the facades is debatable. The jury views positively that the proposal preserves the existing garden and plants new trees here. It strengthens the natural configuration of the terrain, maintaining the character of an amphitheater. The jury appreciates the connection between the office and the hall through the inserted foyer.
Prize – proposal no. 25 – 10,000 CZK authors: Ing. arch. Martin Prokš; Ing. arch. MgA. Marek Přikryl Brief annotation of the proposal: A large multifunctional hall is crucial for the proposal. Its wide scope constitutes the heart of the building, with the aim of allowing it to stand out in broader urban and layout contexts. The hall is set back from the street line and, together with the same setback of the school opposite, creates and expands the public space of the municipality. The space is covered by a canopy and is complemented by furniture, a drinking fountain, and a row of trees. The side glazed facade opens both to the street and to the garden, creating a transparent bridge between them. The interior's content simultaneously enlivens the outside activity. The garden is characterized by its informal atmosphere, to which the proposal responds by dividing the content into multiple structures. The new building with the main hall connects with the inn in the original dining area, and the garden is closed off by a new club with a rehearsal space. Everything is supplemented by preserved mature trees. Jury assessment: The proposal divides the operations into buildings by the street, the courtyard wing by the garden, and a free-standing building on its western side. The jury appreciated the fact that the proposal creates a relaxation area in front of the house and maintains a free garden. The issue is the placement of the building on the western side of the plot, which the jury feels should be pushed to the border on Havlíčkova Street to expand the garden area. The jury would find it appropriate to avoid shading the municipal office from the restaurant building. The jury considers it positive that the multifunctional hall is located on the ground floor and is in contact with the street. A disadvantage is that the hall is more or less single-storey, and the upper floor provides only a relatively small balcony for viewing into the hall. The proposal has insufficient restaurant support facilities and poorly resolved supply. The expression of the building is simple, and the question remains whether it adequately conveys its function. The double placement of toilets in the basement and upper floor is inappropriate. The club space is poorly organized within the layout.
Prize – proposal no. 18 – 10,000 CZK authors: Ing. arch. Pavel Šefl; Ing. arch. Tereza Kupková; Ing. arch. Ondřej Kuptík; Ing. arch. Lucie Němcová Brief annotation of the proposal: The municipality of Hrušovany needs a public - community place where a diverse mix of inhabitants can meet and which will offer quality public facilities. We propose a set of buildings massing inspired by the traditional typology of rural buildings - courtyard, barn, porch ... - . The newly designed buildings create a public space along Masarykova Street adjacent to the municipal office while also redefining the internal central communal space lined with regular colonnades. This shared courtyard is served by a pub with an outdoor taproom, a stage, a large hall, and an adjoining club - with the potential to create a specific local atmosphere for all locals. Jury assessment: This is a radical proposal. The design does not hold the street line, reveals the gable of the municipal office, and creates “two gaps”. It partially creates fences towards the street. It radically alters the kindergarten's garden, placing it along Havlíčkova Street. From this side, the garden of the complex is only accessible through a passage. The jury appreciates the large internal space of the social courtyard and the opening of the municipal office also from the courtyard side. The jury considers the placement of the building directly on the northern boundary of the plot, which borders the garden of a family house, to be problematic and insensitive. The disadvantage of the proposal is the separation of the pub from the hall. The jury appreciates that this is a well-crafted project.
Prize – proposal no. 27 – 10,000 CZK authors: Ing. arch. Ivan Palacký; Ing. arch. Petr Čáslava; Ing. arch. Roman Čerbák; Ing. arch. Tomáš Doležal; Ing. arch. Martin Klenovský Brief annotation of the proposal: The design of the new Hrušovany Sokol Hall translates the main spatial and functional qualities of the existing complex into an updated form, allowing the essentially proven solution to meet contemporary demands. The current conglomerate of buildings, which are structurally inadequate, will be demolished, and an archetype of a municipal community house will be placed into the resulting gap - clearly defined, unarticulated mass with a gable roof and a distinct typographic marking. The layout of the complex emphasizes the non-conflicting coexistence of representative and community spaces, which is reflected in the material solution that combines smooth (white plaster) and rough materials (exposed brick). The young club space is intentionally separated from the main building to eliminate the anticipated acoustic load. At the same time, it separates the utilitarian sports facilities from the site of municipal celebrations - a central area lined with existing mature greenery. Motto: Reconversion of the historical situation by modern means. Jury assessment: This is a compact building with a multifunctional hall oriented towards the street with a sufficiently large vestibule, which is followed by a large club space and an inn. It is the most stylistically traditional design. Like proposals no. 19 and 25, the jury would appreciate the displacement of the young club building to the western edge of the plot towards Havlíčkova Street, to expand the garden area. The jury appreciates the sensible layout and the refinement of the proposal presentation.
