Jihlava - The Railway Administration has announced an architectural competition for the high-speed railway (VRT) terminal in Jihlava-Pávov. It will allow travelers to utilize the planned fast connection between Prague and Brno. The outcome of the competition will be the development of an architectural-urban design for the new transfer hub. The Railway Administration aims to present the winner in the first half of next year, its spokesman Jan Nevola informed CTK today. This is the third architectural competition for a VRT terminal in the Czech Republic following the transport hubs in Prague-East and Roudnice nad Labem.
"The uniqueness of this architectural competition lies in the design of a multi-story terminal, where the existing track will cross with the high-speed rail at different levels," the spokesman stated regarding the terminal near Jihlava. The terminal will be connected to the regional line between Jihlava and Havlíčkův Brod and the adjacent D1 highway. A bridge over the highway with a span of over 160 meters is part of the competition. The VRT terminal will be interconnected with public transport and transport services, and there will be parking facilities for cars.
Participants in the competition will also prepare an urban conceptual design that offers solutions for the area surrounding the new transport hub. "Experience from abroad shows that the areas around terminals on the outskirts of cities can experience rapid development in the following years if there is quality infrastructural connection. However, it remains fully in the hands of local authorities," the spokesman noted.
The Railway Administration has allocated a total of eight million crowns for prizes and awards in the competition for the VRT terminal design in Jihlava, according to the public procurement bulletin, with the first prize being three million crowns.
The terminal in Jihlava-Pávov will be on the high-speed railway between Světlá nad Sázavou in the Havlíčkobrod region and Velká Bíteš in the Žďár region. The eighty-kilometer section through Vysočina is expected to be constructed between 2029 and 2034, the Railway Administration stated. The new railway will be designated solely for passenger transport, with trains traveling at speeds of up to 320 kilometers per hour. The line will utilize several types of connections, from express to fast regional transport.
Details about the planned construction of the high-speed railway can be found on the Railway Administration's website. The winning designs for the VRT terminals in Prague-East on the route from Prague to Poříčany and Roudnice nad Labem for the section from Prague to Lovosice have also been published there.
