Jihlava - The Jihlava city hall will again be looking for a designer to create documentation for the planned central transport terminal. No one applied for the first tender. The city council decided on a new procedure with adjusted conditions at today's meeting. This was stated to journalists by Deputy Mayor Vratislav Výborný (ČSSD). The construction of the terminal at the site of the city’s train station is being prepared by the city in collaboration with the Railway Transport Administration (SŽDC).
Among the reasons for the lack of interest in the first round, according to Výborný, was that the originally requested deadlines would have been too risky for the designers. The city will now seek a designer who will prepare only the first part of the documentation needed for the zoning proceedings. The outcome should be clear within two months.
The new terminal is expected, in addition to rail transport, to connect bus lines and public transport, with provisions for personal transport and cyclists. In the future, it could also connect to the proposed high-speed railway line between Prague and Brno. The urbanistic-architectural study was prepared by Atelier RAW for 1.4 million crowns. Representatives of the city hall stated at its presentation in April that the city would like to secure 100 million CZK from European funds for this project.
The delay in preparing the construction of the terminal caused by the repeated selection of a designer is, according to Mayor Rudolf Chloupek (ČSSD), not dramatic. He stated that SŽDC announced it cannot start working on its part of the project until 2020. He added that the construction phase can begin only after the administration demolishes the current train station building.
SŽDC should build a new terminal building and reconstruct the railway yard. The city is to take care of the remaining matters, including road connections to this currently difficult-to-access location to other city streets.
