The focus of the studio was solving the issues of contemporary villages. The question of its emergence and subsequent sustainability. The first phase involved a detailed analysis of a contemporary village to which we have some emotional connection - Včelákov. The main emphasis was placed on the positions of houses, communication, and overall relationships of local inhabitants in both historical and contemporary contexts. The information gathered and subsequent analyses served as the basis for creating a new settlement – Makovice. We applied three basic factors – relationship, place, and architecture. Furthermore, we considered a longer time horizon of formation and community society. Our goal was to ensure the viability of the village for the next 700 years and beyond.
Veronika Ševčíková, Luděk Šimoník; 3rd year Urban Renewal – Boskovice supervisors: doc. Ing. arch. Karel Havliš, Ing. arch. Ondřej Chybík, Ing. arch. Michal Krištof Problems Jewish quarters across Europe are characterized by the same issues. These are largely caused by historical circumstances and the overall perception of non-Jewish citizens towards Jewish culture. The problems of the former Jewish town in Boskovice primarily concern the definition of spaces. With the events of World War II, the traditions of the Jewish nation were lost, and the places used by these citizens lost their function due to the differences between various cultures. This problem was further deepened by insensitive interventions, not only during the communist period. The project strategy focuses on 5 significant locations that characterize the problems of the Jewish quarter in Boskovice: mono-functionality, vacant lots, gaps, undefined spaces, and inaccessibility of the park.
Strategy The project is addressed in phases, in chronological order from impulse to consequence. Throughout its course, the addressed locations are gradually activated, which have their ongoing development. The consequence of their development leads to functional aspects that are a prerequisite for the prosperity of the quarter and a guarantee of its renewal and sustainability, the acquisition of which is the goal of the project.

“Architecture is defined by space, an environment with atmosphere. We perceive the world and architecture through human senses: sight, hearing, touch, smell, and taste. Five projects emphasizing the perception of landscape, city, house, simplified as the spaces of our being, will be the gradual work of the studio.”
prof. Ing. arch. Ivan Koleček
I want to define a space where darkness and silence will alternate with the morning flood of light and the vibrant bustle of selling local products, releasing a multitude of aromas and taste sensations. Even the sudden silence of a closed market has its specific smell. It should be a space that does not compete with the organic nature, diversity, and size of sampled produce. On the contrary, it will stand in the background and in a contrasting position. In the scale of the city and its circular boulevard, with clearly defined edges and surfaces. One can draw a comparison to a fruit crate. The market is the crate, and the individual stalls are the fruits. If we move to the next layer, a stall that was once a fruit stand suddenly becomes a crate, and the sold fruit has a life of its own. And the market? It merely forms a shell that does not attract attention and only creates a pleasant environment. Everything is in balance. (short excerpt from an essay on smell and taste)
