On August 28 and 29, 2014, a professional jury convened at the castle brewery in connection with the announcement of an architectural competition for a new home for the elderly in Litomyšl. The jury selected the proposal from the FAM ARCHITEKTI office in Prague from 26 submitted designs. The competition was organized in accordance with the competitive conditions of the Czech Chamber of Architects. A total of 130 teams applied for the competition materials, and the jury ultimately evaluated the 26 submitted competition designs. The professional jury consisted of: architect Michal Fišer (chairman), architects Aleš Burian and Jan Šépka, mayor of Litomyšl Michal Kortyš, and Antonín Dokoupil from the Department of Development and Investments of the Municipal Authority of Litomyšl.
Three regular awards and three prizes were granted. 1st place: FAM ARCHITEKTI, s.r.o., Prague - Pavel Nasadil 2nd place: Šrámková architekti, s.r.o. Prague - Lukáš Ehl, Tomáš Koumar, Alena Šrámková 3rd place: Ivan Řezáč, Pavel Lesenský, Petr Fogl, Prague Prizes: Manna s.r.o. (Prague), Milan Jančok (Prešov), Kuba & Pilař architekti (Brno)
The results of the competition were published in accordance with the Public Procurement Act. If no objections are raised within the statutory period, the results of the competition will be submitted for discussion to the City Council of Litomyšl. The competition designs include solutions for a new building with at least 60 single rooms, including sanitary facilities. All service functions are designed for a capacity of at least 80 people. Each room includes a kitchenette and basic furniture. The rooms are organized into four separate closed "living cells," with a common living space designed for each, along with facilities for the caregiving staff. “The architects also addressed parking, transportation connections, and outdoor living areas with an appropriate amount of greenery,” says representative of the client Antonín Dokoupil. The construction of the Home for the Elderly is a long-term intention of the city. However, funding for the implementation is currently lacking. The city hall hopes that the request for a grant, which has been pending at the ministry for some time, will finally be addressed. At the same time, it intends to seek funding from other sources as well.
