Litomyšl wants to start building a new home for the elderly in the fall

Litomyšl – Litomyšl wants to start building a home for the elderly this autumn. The city leadership has selected the contracting company that won out of 11 participants in the competition with the lowest bid of 196 million crowns excluding VAT, the city hall announced today. The price of the contract announced in the tender was approximately 220 million crowns excluding VAT, originally estimated at 300 million crowns.

The city had long postponed funding for the construction from its budget, speed measurement fines, or city forests, and was waiting for a suitable grant title. At the beginning of this year, 156 million crowns had been saved in a special account. The conditions for a possible grant are not met by the project. The city hall also abandoned the idea last year of involving a private investor who would build the home for the elderly and then rent it to the city. Financially, this would not be advantageous.

Construction will be based on the project designed by architects Pavel Nasadil and Jan Horký from the architectural office FAM architekti, who won the architectural competition in 2014. Their project proposes a new three-story building opposite the hospital with the upper two residential floors, ground floor, and flat roof. It will also include a kitchen, laundry, chapel, and administrative section. The new building should serve 100 clients in single and double rooms, while the current home is located in two old buildings with a total of 75 beds. It also takes care of patients with Alzheimer’s disease. The construction should be completed in two years, with an additional six months for finishing and furnishing the interiors.

The city hall also intends to request the Pardubice region, which distributes grants for social services, to change the target capacity of the facility. From the original 75 beds in the home for the elderly and 25 beds in the home with a special regime, there should be 50 beds in the home for the elderly and 50 beds in the home with a special regime.
