The latest project of the students from the Studio of Architecture III New Habitats – New Ornaments will be presented at the exhibition of the same name at the Winternitz Villa.
New Habitats – New Ornaments reflect on new forms of housing for the city of Tallinn created through computational design and the elaboration of a new ornamental aesthetic. “Students in their designs speculate about typologies, forms, constructions, materials, but above all about a new beauty that may manifest in completely unexpected forms. In their work, they build on research into significant building typologies of the twentieth century represented by Le Corbusier's Maison Domino, Habitat 67 by architect Moshe Safdie, and Mobius House by UNstudio. By referencing, surpassing, or rejecting these patterns, they search for entirely new ornaments and new habitats”, explain the project curators Imrich Vaško and Shota Tsikoliya.
The exhibition New Habitats – New Ornaments is a continuation of the successful collaboration between the Czech Technical University in Prague and the Winternitz Villa. The collaboration began in 2018 with the exhibition Architecture at UMPRUM 2018 – a selection from the final projects of architecture students. Research is currently underway, based on which a publication about the Winternitz Villa should be released. Now, the latest project from Studio of Architecture III led by Prof. Imrich Vaško and Shota Tsikoliya has been showcased.
“The choice of this exhibition was aided by the proximity of themes, the newly conceived ornament of the experimental architecture students, and the perception of ornamental aesthetics by co-author of the Winternitz Villa, Adolf Loos. His views were summarized in his well-known book aptly titled Ornament and Crime”, explains the gallery director and co-owner of the villa, David Cysař, about why they decided to include this exhibition.

The exhibition of models and designs by students from Studio of Architecture III will be on display in the rooms on the first floor of the Winternitz Villa until March 10.
