Brno - "Daniel Libeskind - Architecture is Language" is a remarkable exhibition from the Ostrava Cabinet of Architecture / SPOK, the Gallery of Fine Arts in Ostrava, and the Museum of Architecture in Wrocław, which will be presented by the newly reopened Architecture Gallery Brno. From August 6 to September 3, 2013, those interested in modern architecture can become acquainted with a selection of works by the prominent architect, who is primarily known as the author of the project for the new building of the World Trade Center in New York.
Daniel Libeskind was born in post-war Poland and became a U.S. citizen in 1965. He studied music, which he eventually abandoned to pursue architecture. In 1989, he won the competition for the design of the Jewish Museum in Berlin, which received widespread acclaim. Daniel Libeskind has lectured at numerous universities around the world. He is the recipient of many awards, including the Hiroshima Art Prize, which is awarded to artists whose work promotes understanding and peace among nations and had never before been awarded to an architect. Two of Daniel Libeskind's buildings won the RIBA award in 2004 (London Metropolitan University Graduate Centre and Imperial War Museum North), and the Royal Museum was also nominated for the Stirling Prize. Daniel Libeskind's work has been exhibited in many significant museums and galleries around the globe.
"Daniel Libeskind is the author of the winning project Memory Foundations - the new building of the World Trade Center in New York, which includes, among other things, the Freedom Tower, which is 1,776 feet tall, symbolizing the year of the United States' declaration of independence, as well as the memorial to the victims of the terrorist attack on the WTC on September 11, 2001. This project is probably the most well-known to the general public and is part of the exhibition that will also showcase other interesting architectural projects by this author," says Gabriel Kurtis from the organizing Architecture Gallery Brno.
"Since the early 1990s, the Architecture Gallery Brno has been a natural meeting place for architects, artists, and lovers of architecture. The Foundation of Czech Architecture, which establishes the gallery, aims to continue this tradition and offer the Brno public a wide range of activities presenting quality architecture, design, and art. It also seeks to stimulate discussion and public interest in architecture and the public space in which we move daily," adds Gabriel Kurtis.
The opening of the exhibition "Daniel Libeskind - Architecture is Language" will take place on August 6, 2013, at 6 p.m. in the Architecture Gallery Brno, Starobrněnská 16/18. The exhibition will last until September 3. Open daily from 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM.
