Co-author of the project Young Lions in a Cage awarded the Gloria musaealis for the best museum publication of the year 2013, Ivo Habán, prepared a retrospective of Mary Duras for the Regional Gallery of Liberec, the most significant German-speaking sculptor in Czechoslovakia. Thanks to an extensive loan from abroad, the National Gallery in Prague, and other domestic institutions, the work of Mary Duras is comprehensively presented for the first time in history, divided in the past by the Iron Curtain. The exclusive sculpture exhibition is designed for the spaces of the sub-pool hall of the newly reconstructed Liberec Baths, the winner of this year's Grand Prix of the Architects' Association, created in collaboration with the Prague architectural office 0.5 Studio. The retrospective presents nearly sixty sculptural works complemented by drawings and projections. The exhibition also offers a look at the lesser-known face of the sculpture scene of the interwar period. Part of the exhibition is dedicated to comparing the works of Mary Duras with other women sculptors, her Czech and German-speaking contemporaries, with whom she met at domestic and international exhibitions. The retrospective is loosely accompanied by a bilingual scholarly monograph with a catalogue of works, prepared by the exhibition curator and published by Arbor vitae in collaboration with the National Heritage Institute, with the kind support of the Czech-German Future Fund.
