Chybík+Krištof won the award for the best young architectural studio in the world, Design Vanguard 2019, in New York.
Following renowned names such as Sou Fujimoto, Bjarke Ingels Group, and Smiljan Radić, the American magazine Architectural Record awarded Chybík+Krištof the Design Vanguard 2019 award this year. As the first Czechs and Slovaks in history, they earned the prestigious award for their visionary approach to architecture and urbanism. They have thus been included among the "future leaders of architecture" selected by the magazine's jury from young architectural firms around the world.
Architectural Record is one of the oldest magazines dedicated to architecture and interior design, with a history dating back to 1891. The magazine, which has been published continuously for 128 years, has been awarding young and talented architects and their studios since 2000. In its time, this award has successfully predicted the global success of professionals like Neri & Hu, Michel Rojkind, and nARCHITECTS, whom you may have encountered in Prague at the international festival of urbanism and architecture, ReSITE. The win of Design Vanguard thus confirms Chybík+Krištof's leading position in their field not only in our country but also abroad.
Currently, Chybík+Krištof consists of over 50 members in an international team with offices in Prague, Brno, and Bratislava. The June issue of Architectural Record will feature an in-depth presentation of the firm, including its development since 2010, when the studio was founded by Ondřej Chybík and Michal Krištof.
One of the eagerly awaited projects by Chybík+Krištof is the Lahofer winery, set to open in the spring of 2020. This versatile winery complex will offer a visitor center, a hall for wine tastings, and an amphitheater that strategically leans against the building's roof. The winery uses architectural elements to sensitively integrate into the surrounding Moravian landscape – a colonnade of arches follows the rows of vineyards, and the slope of the amphitheater mimics the surrounding hills. The architects are also known for designing the Czech pavilion at Expo 2015 in Milan, utilizing modular architecture that was reassembled at the KOMA manufacturer's site in 2018, as well as the Furniture Gallery in Brno with its remarkable plastic façade.
