The website Building Design reported on the completion of another project by David Adjaye. A prefabricated wooden frame structure in the East London district of De Beauvoir Town, Hackney was largely built last summer in just five days. The contractor was Eurban, specializing in "wooden system designs" that can be realized very quickly. Although the unnamed owner has already moved into the 150 m² house, not all rooms are anywhere near finished.
David Adjaye has extensive experience in designing unique family homes in central London, including a controversial project for journalist Janet Street-Porter, but in this case, it is his first collaboration with Eurban. The massive wooden structure made from fir is designed to improve the thermal and acoustic aspects of the building while also reducing its environmental impact. Eurban claims that every cubic meter of wood saves nearly a ton of carbon dioxide emissions compared to bricks or other masonry systems.
Unfortunately, I could not find any floor plans for the building on David Adjaye's homepage either. And those may be the most interesting aspects of this architect (at least when it comes to family houses). Link>
