The concept of the campus from the London studio of David Adjaye is based on the assumption that cultural use of a space radiating creativity is the best choice for leading a quality urban life. With this intention, the idea arose to establish 'Forum Kulturcampus Frankfurt e.V.', which is to be built on the former grounds of the university campus at the border of the Bockenheim and Westend districts. This is a large project involving a total of nine associations (cultural, educational, and scientific institutions) that should collectively create a center for contemporary art and science. Adjaye's study creates a dense collection of various functional uses, evoking a small-town environment where cultural workers, scientists, local residents, and officials will meet daily in an artistic atmosphere. The chosen structure facilitates sharing and encourages mutual influence. Different uses can also be applied vertically, with various functions stacked on top of each other. The authors plan to create a central public square connecting the halls and rehearsal spaces of cultural institutions with adjacent shops and markets. The heart of the campus is not an isolated island but actively communicates with citizens and the surrounding environment. Large glass surfaces will allow glimpses into the rehearsal rooms and studios. The whole complex will accommodate a total of two thousand artists, dancers, and actors who will study and work in the local cultural institutions. In addition to the university, the site will also house the choreography group Forsythe Company and the music ensemble Ensemble Modern. Public debates will still take place regarding the final form of the campus and the preservation of historically valuable buildings on the site.
